New Relic® for Atlassian JIRA®

Supports JIRA 6.3.x - 7.x

The New Relic for Atlassian JIRA plugin allows you to track metrics in two categories: database items, and Java metrics. The metrics are sampled every 60 seconds.

Database items

This category of JIRA metrics are shown on JIRA’s Administration->System Info page. This plugin allows them to be shown in table form, or added to custom dashboards so that you can track them alongside other metrics from other sources. The metrics available to you are:

  • The number of projects defined in JIRA
  • The number of issues being tracked
  • The number of custom fields that have been defined
  • The number of workflows
  • The number of attachments that have been added to issues
  • The number of comments made against issues
  • The number of JIRA users
  • The number of JIRA groups

Java metrics

This category includes a few Java internal metrics that are known to affect JIRA’s performance. Although a much more comprehensive view of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) internals would be provided by New Relic’s APM product, in many cases, a more coarse-grained view is sufficient for basic JIRA server health monitoring. The included metrics are:

  • The number of available processors
  • The amount of memory used by Java
  • The amount of free memory available
  • The total amount of server memory

The account name

You can enter any name that is meaningful to you into the Account name field - it’s only used to remind you which account you’ve set up.

The license key

You must copy-and-paste your New Relic license key, which you will find on the Account settings page on the New Relic website.
When you have filled in those fields, click Add account. The dialog box will close, and a new row will appear in the New Relic Accounts table.
You can add as many New Relic accounts as you like; metrics will be posted to each of those accounts at the same time.
